“Breath Perception is a powerful method of Conscious Relaxation that can be used in any situation to cultivate peace of mind, wellbeing, and presence. Its beauty lies in its simplicity, deepening connection, enhancing performance, and guiding you toward greater harmony between your mind, body, heart, and spirit.”
Dawnie Browne
What is Breath Perception?
Breath Perception is a powerful method of optimising your well-being, performance and connectedness in life, by progressively re-regulating your nervous system. It is appropriate if you are:
Seeking greater meaning by re-connecting to your spirit
Seeking ways of managing stress, by learning to relax and calm your mind
Suffering from stress and anxiety
Overwhelmed by feelings such as anger, low self-esteem and sadness
In a life situation that offers you little time to rest
In recovery from trauma (including sexual abuse/violence)
Seeking ways of enhancing intimacy/connection with your partner through shared relaxation and mutual care
Caring for someone/people experiencing emotional, psychological or physical difficulties – including children suffering from problems associated with attachment
Suffering from an interruption to your health that causes you mental and physical distress
In a personal or professional position in which your success/effectiveness is reliant upon your presence, leadership and emotional resilience
Experiencing problems with concentration, sleep and decision-making
In a situation where you can’t see the woods for the trees and you need to find a way of centering and grounding yourself
Where does it come from?
The outcome of +18 years of my own research into the role of breathing in assisting recovery and optimising wellbeing and quality of life, Breath Perception is grounded in:
Neuroscience (the Science of the nervous system)
Attachment Theory
The Physiology of Chronic Emotional and Lifestyle Stress
Eastern wellbeing/mindfulness practices recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (N.I.C.E) and the Mental Health Foundation in the treatment of difficulties associated with stress and anxiety
Why learn about breathing when it happens naturally?
Science shows we are each born with an innate capacity to consciously relax and develop resilience. Due to the unconscious impact of trauma and stress on our nervous systems many of us don’t know we have this capacity. We get stuck on a hamster wheel of doing, unaware of how to relax and lose connection to who we really are. The outcome is hidden potential and reduced quality of life. We believe our thoughts, suffer and never know who we truly are.
This is expressed through changes in our breathing patterns that impact our physiology and emotions, thoughts and behaviours, concentration/performance and our sense of self.
By enabling you to consciously relax and re-balance the part of your nervous system that controls stress and relaxation, Breath Perception gives you easy-to-use self-care tools for life. So you can consciously regulate your emotions, intercept unhelpful thoughts, choose your behaviours, perform to your potential and understand who you really are. The outcome is a happier, healthier, more fulfilled life.
You can learn Breath Perception in a workshop, as a couple, in individual sessions or by hiring me to work as a trainer in your organisation. Please get in touch and we can together discuss the best option for you.

Why learn about breathing when it happens naturally?
Every moment you are alive your body is adapting the physiological conditions within you in response to the environment around you, in order to ensure you survive. Your capacity to experience resilience and thrive is reliant upon your nervous system moving fluidly between the relaxed ‘being’ state of rest and repose and the active ‘doing’ state of fight, flight or freeze.
When the demands of life exceed your body’s need for rest, your nervous system forgets how to relax and resets itself to chronic stress mode. This is expressed through changes in your health and emotions, thoughts and behaviours, concentration, performance, self-esteem and your sense of who you are, your identity.
By enabling you to re-regulate your nervous system and look after the physiological environment within you, Breath Perception helps you to gradually restore balance and build resilience lost through stressful life experiences.
